II. Job Summary

A licensed Nurse Practitioner is responsible for direct care of patients as well as promoting good health and well being of AccelHealth patients through medical care, education, health care maintenance, and or disease prevention. Diagnoses and treats a variety of diseases and injuries in a general practice setting. In addition, Nurse Practitioner may be qualified to serve on the active Medical Staff of a local hospital, provide inpatient care services, or assume on call or after hours responsibilities. The Nurse Practitioner agrees to utilize the most appropriate channel of patient care to include telehealth, telemedicine, medical phone visits, on-site visits, or outside clinic visits.

III. Responsibilities and Authorities

  1. Provides comprehensive, direct medical care to AccelHealth patients, both acute and preventative, under the supervision of a licensed physician. The Nurse Practitioner utilizes the most appropriate channel of patient care to include telehealth, telemedicine, medical phone visits, on-site visits, or outside clinic visits.

  2. Nurse Practitioner sees all AccelHealth patients regardless of race, sex, ethnic origin, religion, or income.

  3. Documents appropriately in each AccelHealth patient’s electronic health record at conclusion of each office visit or other interaction.

  4. Administers and prescribes treatments and pharmaceuticals.

  5. Inoculates and vaccinates patients to protect from communicable diseases.

  6. Advises patients concerning diet, hygiene, and methods for prevention of disease.

  7. Reports births, deaths, and outbreak of contagious diseases to governmental authorities.

  8. Refers AccelHealth patients to medical and or behavioral specialists for specialized treatment.

  9. Performs minor surgery according to Board of Directors approved delineation of clinical privileges.

  10. Conducts physical examinations to provide information needed for admission to school, employment, or eligibility for insurance coverage or other reasons.

  11. Participates in the analysis of community health problems and the development of a community health care plan.

  12. Complies with credentialing requirements and submits requested information on a timely basis.

  13. Assists Chief Medical Officer in development of professional medical direction in development and expression of AccelHealth philosophical concepts and goals.

  14. Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein as may be assigned or delegated by the Chief Medical Officer in keeping with the agency’s philosophy, purpose, priorities, goals, and objectives.

IV. Performance Standards

Performance will be evaluated by the Supervising Physician approved by the Chief Medical Officer, using the AccelHealth Performance Evaluation Form; wherein a satisfactory overall rating is considered a minimal acceptable level of performance.

V. Additional Responsibilities

  1. May assist other staff members with their duties as work load dictates.

  2. Complete required CME per specialization and attends seminars, complies with in-service training requirements, attends mandatory staff meetings and conferences as needed or requested.

  3. Uses equipment safely and effectively.

  4. Demonstrates an appropriate level of knowledge of infection control for the assigned duties, awareness of the organization’s mission and values, knowledge of patient rights.

  5. Demonstrates knowledge of policies and procedures for safety in the workplace including response to employee injury, fire, security, incidents, ban on smoking, utility failure, response to medical emergencies, and handling of hazardous material.

  6. Uses and protects access code for computer and time station.

  7. Utilizes the employee handbook, chain of supervision and other resources.

  8. Demonstrates awareness of process improvement methodology, design, measure, assess, improve. Actively participates in performance improvement activities.

VI. Qualifications

  1. Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner graduate program.

  2. Licensed in Texas, Certified Nurse Practitioner.

  3. Current Texas Controlled Substance Registration certificate.

  4. Current DEA Controlled Substance Registration certificate.

  5. Must be eligible for liability coverage under the Federal Torts Claims Act.

  6. High ethical standards.

  7. Well-organized, self-directed and team leader.

  8. Excellent communication skills.

  9. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

  10. Consumer advocate for quality health care and services.

  11. Ability to handle multiple projects.

VII. Physical Requirements

  1. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position.

  2. Must be able to meet the attendance requirements of the position.

  3. Must be able to communicate with the public and staff.

  4. Must be able to access all other agency locations unassisted.

  5. Must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.
