It’s a busy time in Washington, D.C., as lawmakers continue negotiating the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” Congress is weighing numerous proposals to address concerns about Medicaid cuts, including the possibility of a provider fund that may support Community Health Centers (CHCs). Discussions are currently in the Senate, with a goal of passing legislation by July 4. The bill is then expected to return to the House before being signed into law by President Trump.   Deliberations are ongoing, and some Representatives have openly expressed concern to Senate leadership that several proposed Medicaid changes will negatively impact their constituents. Meanwhile, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. testified today before the House Energy and Commerce Committee regarding the department’s FY2026 budget proposal.    NACHC, in collaboration with Primary Care Associations (PCAs), continues to work diligently to educate members of Congress and key stakeholders about the impact of the legislation on CHCs and the need to ensure they are included in any relief efforts.
Last week, NBC News interviewed NACHC’s Chief Policy Officer, Joe Dunn, about the impact that proposed changes to Medicaid would have on the healthcare workforce, one of the few notably strong areas of the U.S. job market. As Medicaid funding hangs in the balance, Dunn shared that the stakes are especially high for rural communities that rely on CHCs as their only source of care.
